Celebrating Freedom to Choice on the 4th of July

July 4, 2018

The 4th of July is a day full of both celebration and reflection. Parades, hot dogs, fireworks. Remembering those who have fought & died for the freedom to celebrate today.

For those still fighting.

I always find myself reflecting on the history of this country on the 4th. Thinking of my grandfather, uncles and other family and friends who have served and sacrificed for this country. For Freedom.

So, this 4th of July, I want to talk about the definition of freedom.

free·dom

  1. the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.

Pause and read that sentence again. Let it sink in. The power to ACT, SPEAK or THINK.

The last year, I have focused on the internal work needed to really push myself forward, to pursue passions, set goals, chase dreams and to inspire others to do that same work with me. This kind of work is hard. It requires adjusting how you think. Thankfully, there is ONE freedom that can never be limited or taken from you. That is your freedom to think whatever you choose. Freedom of thought.

Yet, so often we are held prisoner by our thoughts. By the negative comments and lies we tell ourselves. By the limits we place on what we are capable of. By THINKING of ourselves as a victim.

So, on this 4th of July, I urge you to take a moment to celebrate the freedom to choose your thoughts. Our thoughts are an under appreciated freedom that we have complete control over. Choose wisely, my friends.

Happy 4th of July!

With 2020 in the rearview mirror, I am reminded of the saying that ‘things in the mirror are closer than they appear.'

Isn’t that the truth?

When My Mask Falls

Taking my mask off in the past, was a simple, thoughtless endeavor. It was almost freeing, in fact, to take it off and discard the mask and never think about it again.

Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
