The Things Dreams Are Made Of

June 14, 2017

"A dream is wish your heart makes, when you're fast asleep…"

I promise I will tell you more of the back story soon, but that’s the past. It is my journey. My tread marks of where I have been and what has led me to this moment. I used to shy away from parts of my story. Parts of me. That is not who I am now. I OWN my story. I am taking that story and writing new chapters. Onward and upward. Chasing dreams.

Recently, Michael and I decided to chase a new dream. We decided to go after our dream home. Not when we retire, not when we make more money, not later. NOW.

So, here comes the meat of the post. Dreams are wishes until there is a plan, actionable steps moving you forward. THEN your dream changes. It is now a goal, with a plan. That does not make it easy. Dreams have a price and you must decide, what is my dream worth? Is it worth the sacrifices I have to make, the difficulties I will face today, to realize that dream tomorrow?

This is what I have to decide every day. Is it worth it? Our family's dream home? A place to call our own for the first time as a family of 4? The type of house, the colors, the views, the locations. Is that happiness worth the price?

Money cannot buy happiness. Sacrifice does not mean you will gain happiness or achieve your dream. But, is it still worth it? If you have the passion, the plan, the goals, the timelines and it feels even remotely possible then I argue yes, it is worth it.

If you do not have those things, I ask you, is that really YOUR dream or are you chasing someone else’s dream?

With 2020 in the rearview mirror, I am reminded of the saying that ‘things in the mirror are closer than they appear.'

Isn’t that the truth?

When My Mask Falls
Oct 7, 2020

Taking my mask off in the past, was a simple, thoughtless endeavor. It was almost freeing, in fact, to take it off and discard the mask and never think about it again.

Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
